What is the Homeless Contribution Tax Credit (HCTC)?

Created by Colorado House Bill 2022 – 1083 and administered by the Division of Housing (DOLA), the HCTC provides a tax credit to Colorado taxpayers who contribute to eligible, homelessness-related projects within Colorado—that includes Providence Network.

By contributing to our organization, you can claim 25% of your donation (monetary or value of in-kind) as a state income tax credit.

Who qualifies for the HCTC?

Any Colorado taxpayer who contributes to eligible nonprofit organizations and projects at a level equal to or greater than:

  • $250/year in monetary donations
  • $5,000/year in in-kind donations
    • In-kind donations are contributions of “property, services, stocks, bonds, or other intangible property.” This excludes items like clothing and furniture. See FAQs for more information.

How do I apply for the HCTC?

Donors may apply for the HCTC themselves via the HCTC Salesforce Portal. Here is an instructional video for this process. Please ensure that you review the following documents before beginning the application process:

Nonprofit name: Providence Network

Project name: Providence Network: Homeless Support Services

You can download your giving statements/donation receipts through our donor portal.

Providence Network may also apply on behalf of the donor. However, please note that this requires the donor to disclose their full Social Security Number (SSN), Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), and Employer Identification Number (EIN) to us. If you choose to have us apply on your behalf, we will collect your sensitive information via phone call only at 303-551-9319.

As a friendly reminder, never share sensitive and/or personal identifiable information—including your social security number and/or tax identification number—over email or text message!

What are the deadlines for submission?

At minimum, submissions should be made on a quarterly basis. The next deadline for submission is October 31, 2023 for all eligible contributions made from January 1 – September 30, 2023.
