We’re celebrating our most recent Providence House graduation. Just last month Levi completed our two-year addiction recovery program for men and women in Denver and we’re pleased to announce he has joined our team as a live-in staff member. We love those who’ve been there leading by example and giving back in our transformational homes.
Levi grew up on the north-side projects of Denver surrounded by gang violence. He steered clear by skateboarding but fell into alcohol and drug addiction in an unhealthy relationship. Hitting rock bottom, he heard about Providence House through his mom, Lydia (one of our graduates!). Despite feeling fear and shame, he committed to the Providence House recovery program.
A major contributor to his success was our 24/7 staff support who he says offered both accountability and friendship. He connected the most with John Elliott, our Providence House Director who passed away unexpectedly in September. “Johnny was my mentor. He was my best friend. He was my brother,” Levi says, “I consider Johnny a father figure in my life.” Levi remembers arguing about all the “whys” and “hows” with Johnny, but now that Levi’s on the other side, he gets it.
Levi attributes his success to the program’s structure, accountability, and community support. “If I didn’t have that community I don’t think I’d be where I’m at right now.” Wrestling with his spirituality, Levi spent a lot of time processing his relationship with God. “I didn’t know how to surrender just yet… Due to difficult circumstances, I found that spiritual awakening inside myself. It was a matter of trusting God that things were going to be okay… It’s about having a relationship with God.”
